Honda Won’t Start After Attempted Jump Start

There is possibly nothing more disheartening than getting in a car, turning the key and it not starting. Thankfully, with Hondas, this doesn’t happen very often because they are so reliable. Unfortunately, some occasions can cause a Honda not to start, even after you attempt a jump start. Why does this happen? And what can you do to solve it?

Reasons Your Honda Won’t Start

If you’re trying to jump start your Honda, the chances are you’ve had a flat battery.  If this happens and your car doesn’t start, the first thing to do is check the battery cables. The problem could be as simple as a loose connection between the battery and the vehicle’s electrical system.

Another issue could be that the battery connectors are dirty or corroded. Cleaning or replacing these could solve your problem. Make sure the connections are tight and try starting the car again. This might require another attempt at jump starting.

Before attempting to jump start the engine, try and make sure the battery is charged for at least 15 minutes; if it is, it’s more likely to have enough power to crank the engine. Look for any warning lights or fault codes, which could help you identify the problem.

If this doesn’t work, it probably means that the starter motor isn’t turning over the engine and the engine is dead. However, if you’ve recently charged the battery or attempted a jump start, it could also be because the electrical systems within the car aren’t speaking to each other. This affects the car’s ignition system. As a result, the vehicle could have immobilised itself, and the key will need resetting.
